Which is better EPDM or silicone coolant hose?
When compared with silicone, EPDM is significantly inferior with a maximum temperature of 130°C (266°F). Silicone can reach constant temperatures of 230°C (446°F) and up to 270°C (518°F) for special high temperature silicone grades. From the perspective of evaporation rate, rubber hoses (such as EPDM hoses) generally have a lower evaporation rate compared to silicone hoses. This means that coolant inside rubber hoses is less likely to evaporate, which is advantageous for maintaining the cooling efficiency of the system.
How to choose suitable rubber materials?
The selection of suitable rubber materials should consider the following factors: Working temperature: EPDM is suitable for high temperature and severe cold environments, while NBR is suitable for oil resistant environments. Chemical resistance: If oil or acid alkali corrosion resistance is required, NBR or FKM are recommended. Physical properties: such as wear resistance and pressure resistance, SBR is suitable for general mechanical and industrial applications.
